my first blog, now i am officially a part of web 2.0
today i am reading "how to be a graphic designer without losing your soul" by stefan sagmeister. so far i am deeply into the book, albeit only page 23 it already has me enslaved to its content. i am highlighting, in pink, every name he mentions with the intention of going back and doing my own bit of research on them.
i am formulating a plan to be implemented within two years, (closer to the end of those two years to be more precise). this plan is to be in business for myself doing what i love ~ design. my method or plan -right-now is to read and research and observe and involve and evolve in every human way imaginable. i have to put myself out there and develop things i dont posses, like better verbal communications, better math skills and a basic analytical understanding of business. i am going to learn how to write a buisness plan and how to follow through, if this means immersing myself in conversation with those who know, reading business books, taking a class, networking...whatever it takes.
i dont even know positively what my business will be. im my most perfect world, which i do know doesnt exist, i would hope it to be something with my design abilities, most perfectly it would be to design stationery, invitations, presentations and greetingsd cards about the celebrations and defeats in life.
OR
perhaps some buisness where i will be able to make a statement about my experience in life, how i view things and what i believe about them and the world i live in
OR
perhaps it will be more along a business where i can interact with people who share the same loves i have - music, books, design, life. that may mean opening a book store, a music resell shop, a consignment shop, or a small diner/deli. who knows.
whatever it may be i know its going to take time and a lot of hard work. both of which i am willing to contribute to this cause of mine. so i charge you to follow my journey to my dream...comment, correct, chastise, inspire or invigorate me or just sit back and ride.
and thanks for reading.
